Designing and Assessing Technology-Enhanced Inquiry for K-8 Classrooms is an additional qualification course developed for in-service elementary educators who are expected to create constructivist, culturally responsive, and inclusive learning environments through inquiry. This course addresses these tensions by supporting the critical examination of teachers’ current inquiry practices along the continuum, their use of assessment strategies and the integration of technology.

Course overview

In practice, teachers often implement loosely structured problem-based activities without the use of a clear inquiry framework, proper curriculum alignment, and research-informed assessment strategies.

Although digital tools are increasingly embedded in elementary classrooms, they are frequently used for content delivery or product creation rather than to intentionally structure inquiry processes or make student thinking visible.

Practical impact

My belief is that professional learning should lead to practical impact.

This course is designed so that participants leave not only with a deeper understanding of the inquiry framework and technology integration, but with a peer-reviewed technology-enhanced inquiry unit that is directly applicable to their teaching context.

Course structure

Fully online and asynchronous. 11 weeks. Approximately 125 hours. Four modules.

The K–8 course isn’t fully complete. It has a full overview, syllabus, structure, learning outcomes, and assessment plan, but only one of the modules has been developed.
